1. We met Joe and his mate Daz in a pub after work and talked with them about the house they're thinking of getting with another of their mates so they can lead la vida loca. They've got a choice between a new place with two bedrooms and a box room and a 1930s house which is bigger, cheaper and muckier. We were saying, look there's no contest here; take the 1930s semi and get the landlord to change the carpets.

2. Afterwards we ate at Frankie and Benny's New York Diner. Whoever designed this franchise was having fun. They've got photos of wiseguys and accordion players on the wall, the piped music is all 1950s hits and the  balloons are in the colours of the Italian flag- red, white and dark green. The food ain't bad either.

3. I was woken this morning at seven when a rabbit with very large feet came flollopping into the bedroom. I was wondering how long it would take Tish to figure out the stairs. The answer- with coaching from Tosh- is under a week.

4. I'm reading Byron's Don Juan. And you know what it is? It's a stand- up comedy routine.

I take it Tish and Tosh are getting along well, then?

If your son's landlord won't change the carpets, he can always put his own rugs down. Basically, mess / decor can be changed, but the amount of internal space can't.

Tish and Tosh are getting on like a house on fire. It took them about three days to become friends.

Rugs are a good idea. The third friend has said he doesn't mind sleeping in the box room but Joe and Daz aren't sure how he'll cope with actually having to do it.

So Tish is out and about--how fun to be awakened by a rabbit.

My sister and brother-in-law have Bailey, a very young corgie, who shoves at them with his big nose to wake them up.

At the moment it looks as if Tish and Tosh may have decided to move upstairs on a permanent basis.
