poliphiloIt was a misty morning. We went to a family funeral. I sort of wished I'd taken my camera with me so I could have photographed the misty cemetery.
We saw a gravestone with a carving of an astronaut. I wish I had a picture to show you.
The woman we were cremating was 95 and had been saying for a while how she wished she could wake up dead, so no-one was in too much of a state about her.
It was rather as if we'd gathered at the station to wave her off.
Oh, the feebleness of the established church! The vicar was a nice old boy but he didn't half talk some toss. It was in the paper last night that my old church- St. Anne's Royton- has become the target for local youths. They've been doing things like smashing the war memorial and setting benches on fire and really I'm not surprised, seeing how sweetly feeble the established church has become. "Ecrasez l'infame " as Voltaire once said.
We went back to the house and normally I don't like meeting relatives but these relatives were nice. One of them, a cousin of Ailz's at least four times removed, wanted to talk about paganism and cabala and Gandalf and really I'm always happy to talk about things like that. She sort of invited us to attend her cabala class and we sort of said we might.
