After The Storm

I felt really edgy yesterday. I put it down to the high winds. I stepped out mid morning and there was a plastic bag sailing over the tree-tops and a tin can racing down the street like a little, yapping dog. After the storm had passed we found two slates in the front yard. Later this morning I'm going to have to go scan the roof with my binoculars and see where they came from.

I weathered a wicked storm in Ipswich in '90. Scared the dickens out of me when I heard the roofing slates crashing to the ground outside, and the sound of cement going down my chimneys.

Generally speaking to hear the wind keening round the house, but yesterday things got a little too wild for comfort.

We´ve been following the effects of the storm as it plowed through. Quite scary, and I saw some rather nasty looking flooding in the UK but didn´t catch exactly where. Any idea where that was? When you start losing your roofing you know it´s bad. Still, I hope it was just those few slates for you.

The North West seems to have caught the worst of it. There were a couple of deaths in the Manchester area. I didn't see any reports of flooding, but there was a story about an entire clasroom- fortunately with no-one in it- that was lifted up into the air, then dropped.

I think I've located where the slates came from. It doesn't seem like anything to get unduly worried about.

I saw the news, the airplane trying to land with wind-wobbling wings at the Manchester airport, and thought of both of you--no trees down where you are? It sounds like an awful storm--they said it was a very strong jet stream.

I'm glad you are okay.

We drove into town this morning and saw fallen trees and other evidence of storm damage. A local school reportedly had its roof torn off. But generally speaking this area seems to have got off fairly lightly.

We saw that film of the plane too. Scary.
