Global Warming
I went to the bathroom a couple of nights ago and looked out the window and there was a bright light just to the right of next-door 's chimney stack. At first I thought it had to be a plane. I even imagined I could see it pulsing.
Then my brain took in the larger picture and I noticed other lights to the left of the chimney and above it, and- sudden shock to the system- realised I was looking at Orion and the light I'd seen first was Rigel.
Most years I watch out for the coming of the winter stars. This year they've taken me by surprise. Mid October and the days and nights are still wonderfully mellow and warm. This summer (now officially the hottest on record) is just going on and on and on.

I miss all the meteor showers for the same reason.
I am loving this autumn more than usual--we have had much rain, fog, and falling wet leaves, and the woods are getting beautiful. I like to drive through the countryside on my way back home, as I used to before moving to the city years ago.
Our town is farther north and on a ridge--maybe that's why it always seems to get to new seasons faster than surrounding areas. On my very tree-lined road, it's just like a fairyland lately, and in the mornings fog rises in the woods here.
