Seen It All Before

 Does it really matter who the British Prime Minister is? The next person who fills the role will sweat under the same sun as the current one does, bow before the same wind.

Nevertheless the media make a great to-do about it- and once again we're treated to the spectacle of an office holder clinging on by their fingertips and refusing to let go. This particular one is deeply unpopular, is being buffeted by scandals both personal and political and has just presided over an election that was disastrous for his party. "I'll change," he says, "I'll prove the doubters wrong" - just like the half dozen Prime Ministers before him. There are only so many times you can watch Harold Lloyd dangle from the clock face and still find it thrilling and funny......

It's one of those times when, if I want to watch the news on television, I quickly switch to a non-UK source to hear about something other than Keir Starmer, and even then still get to hear a bit about him. Avoiding news of both Starmer and Trump can be quite some effort.

People love these political dramas- or at least journalists do- but in this case the protagonists are really rather interesting

True. I just turned on the TV and heard Badenoch so switched to France 24 and heard about Trump. My problem with say, the BBC, is that they run out of actual facts or news but just keep on talking for hours, repeating the same speculation, etc. I wish they would tell us the things then move on to other things.

Like you I find most news stories are contained in their headlines- and the stuff underneath is just waffle.....
