It's gonna happen sooner or later and now is as good a time as any.

Also it may be starting to look like economic sense. The infrastructure of the fossil fuel industry is just so vulnerable.

That was my thought too, they might be forced to. Horrible but interesting times. Horrible certainly overrides.

If only! I think consumers getting fed up and changing their buying habits would force their hands. This seems to be happening in some places (China) with cars. Our dimwit president derailed that effort here but I think it's just stalling the inevitable.
