Catholic Guilt

Our friend who get spooked by our other friend's demonstration of what AI could do- has given me contact details for his brother in the USA  ("in case anything should happen to me:")  He has other things bugging him beside AI- and I'm one of the people who is prepared to sit and listen to him. I don't think he's suicidal but.....

Once a priest always a priest.

At least I'm no longer in thrall to the Christian doctrines and ethics I grew up accepting. Our friend, however, is. He was raised Catholic and those chaps place a heavy, heavy load on young shoulders. It's not that he exactly believes what they taught him- but their ghosts accompany him down the road- even into his seventies- expostulating- and he can't just shrug them off or stop himself from answering back.

The impact of this is amazing. Constantly here these what-ifs from ex-RC refugees. I'm like "What if your life was yours?? What if God loved you, without condition?
