Homeless But In Work

 There was a guy sleeping in the bus shelter. I gave him a couple of coins and he said that was just what he needed to get to work. I've read about people who hold down jobs in spite of being homeless but this was the first one I'd knowingly met.

I'd class seeing the 'Issue' or busking as work although many wouldn't.

Yeah, those things are work,

But a very specific kind of work- with the workplace being the street- and the worker being self-employed. From the way this guy spoke I figured he was going to an office or a restaurant or a garage or something along those lines- where he would have an employer and some sort of regular wage.

In the States, there are a lot of homeless people who work but don't make enough $$$ to afford rent. It's a huge issue that never gets looked at because everyone wants to think of the homeless as either addicts or crazy. (And a lot of one-time sane homeless do become hooked or go nuts just because they need something to cut the edge of a wretched lifestyle.)

I don't think the situation in Britain is so very different....

Perhaps our new government will do something about it....
