Please Can I Join Your Club?

 Today I will submit my letter to the Clerk asking to become a full member of the Society of Friends.

Ailz wrote it for me. It's very short and businesslike. She wrote it because my feelings are mixed- and while I want to identify with the Quakers I find it ridiculous to have to put in an application and then be interviewed...

Ach, I have always had issues with anything that smacks of authority....

....Anything that smacks of taking oneself (and one's gang) too seriously.

In the film A Hard Day's Night, the over-earnest interviewer asks Ringo if he's a Mod or a Rocker and he replies- in that lovely flat Scouse drawl, "I'm a Mocker..."

You'll find that the interview runs like a mini meeting for worship if they do it the same way as they did for me in Ealing.

Good luck, I wonder how it will go, especially what kinds of things they choose to probe as being possible concerns, if it's more a not thinking that some people need a good slap, or curious how you'll contribute, or what.

I know the chap who will be visiting on behalf of our Meeting- and like him.

One is interviewed by two people- one from one's own Meeting and one representing the larger area. I think the guy from our Meeting will be nice to me....
