poliphilo We've eaten most of the Christmas food now. Ailz was mainlining mince pies yesterday- or maybe the day before (one loses track)- just to be rid of them. After a while- and for me the point was reached several days before December 25- eating delicious festive food becomes a chore.
I'm giving the decorations until tomorrow. Then they go back under the spare room bed.
I watched Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon- in spite of the terrible reviews- because I fancied something silly and pretty. It was full of brilliant ideas- all of them lifted from other people's fictions. The "borrowings" from Star Wars and Seven Samurai are acknowledged and obvious but nobody I've read has pointed out how the design of the humanoid spider monster that gets sliced up samurai style is remarkably similar to that of the Racnoss Queen in the Dr Who episode "Runaway Bride." When I told Mike I was watching it he sighed and said, "I hate Zack Snyder".
The most significant events aren't always the ones that make contemporary headlines- and my guess is that future historians will remember 2023 as the year Steve Grusch told Congress about the crashed "non-terrestrial craft" that the USA has in its possession.
Men's fashion in 2024 will be very very retro. Ailz drew my attention to an article that was accompanied by a snap of two blokes dressed like it was 1910, one in corduroy and the other in heavy tweeds. What with the beard I'm growing and the smoking caps I wear, I'm looking forward to becoming a style icon...
