I have been putting off wrapping presents,

I am not good at wrapping presents. Nevertheless it has been understood for as long as I can remember that wrapping presents is a job that falls to my lot.

I envy those shop assistents who go "fold, fold, fold- and the job is done- beautifully. What I do is go fumble, fumble, fumble and the job is done- badly. I am not clever with my hands. My folds are never neat, My adhesive tape twists and sticks to itself.

Q: Who  thought wrapping presents was a good idea, anyway?

A: The Chinese apparently- who invented wrapping paper shortly after they invented paper. Here in the west I think we can look to the Victorians. Everything that is excessive and over-the-top about Christmas is pretty much their fault.

Did you know William Morris designed wrapping paper? No, neither did I, but I'm not surprised. That man was capable of anyything. Even poetry- and- as with eveything else he set his hand to-  his poetry is remarkably good. Grrrr.....
