Orion And His Entourage

"You're up early," said Ailz. "It's a minute past six."

Well, I don't have a clock so I take my cue from the level of noise the cat is making and the fact that Ailz has her phone lit and is playing Wordle....

I don't mind getting up early.  It gives me delusions of virtue.

And there's this enormous plus that it's still dark and I can see the more prominent of the stars and planets.

And this morning I got to see Orion hanging in the sky over Beachy Head- and Sirius of course-  and Aldebaran and even- yes- it was still sufficiently dark to make out the Pleiades as a faint, faint smudge of light.

I date the turn of the year to my first sight of Orion and his entourage- and seeing them reconciles me to winter.
