Alice put out a meme where you ask male relatives how often they think about the Roman Empire because it seems it's a fact that men think about it a lot more than women do.

(Even in spite of Mary Beard).

And, yes, I do think about the Roman Empire a lot- usually in the context of archaeology.

There was report I just read about a dig in Britain that turned up a Roman cemetery and one of the things they found was a nice little statue of the god Triton- and it made me unreasonably happy.

Speaking of which, we have the enormous Roman fort of Andirida (Pevensey) just down the road from here...
