 More blueness.

Our friends Edna and Miriam treated us to lunch- and a stroll round the bluebell woods at Arlington.

It rained. The heavens were weeping at the coronation of Charles III- which I didn't watch.

Cost us a lot of money that did. Over 50 people were arrested in London for making their disapproval public. The jolliest protest was in a town the media didn't identify but which I think from the architecture must have been Bath- where someone had mowed or otherwise incised an enormous penis in the grass of a lawn where the coronation party was due to be held. Hooray for whoever that was! I'm in two minds about shouty protests but I'm all in favour of silly ones.

I've been trying to find out whether Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. derives it's name from Arlington, Sussex but no-one will tell me. (There's also an Arlington village- and mansion to go with it- in Devon.) My sources tell me that General Lee's house was named after his wife's family's estate on the Eastern sea board but there the trail goes cold.

The bluebell walks will be closing on Wednesday. If you looked closely you could see that the flowers were beginning to look a little tired. But you don't look closely, do you? You admire the cumulative effect of a million plants spread out beneath the new green of the trees, like an unmoving smoke or mist....
