Souplake

"As the Quaker philosopher Thomas Souplake once said..."

This was my drowsing mind at around six o'clock this morning.

"Alright, drowsing mind, what did Thomas Souplake once say?"

But it had lost the thread, as drowsing minds often do- and all I had was the name- which I rather liked.

Did or does Thomas Souplake exist? Not in this timeline- and neither has anybody else of that surname. I asked wikipedia to make sure...

But there is lake called Pea Soup Lake in the Alpine Wilderness, north of Roslyn in Washington State. People hike to it. It's set about with rocky crags and its colour is a beautiful deep blue. It gets that colour from the "rock flour" (whatever that is) that sifts into it from from the surrounding terrain. There is speculation that it may have been green back in the 19th century when it was still being fed by a glacier that has retreated.

Blue, green- who cares? Either way the lake is lovely. I am grateful to the non-existent Thomas for leading me to it...
