At The Zoo

Ivy wanted to see the capybaras. Capybaras are big enormous rats with faces like Deputy Dawg.

The furry things in zoos interest me less than the birds. I'm a mammal; I know what mammals are like and what they can do but birds are exotic.

Monkeys are a little too close to caricature human beings for me to be comfortable around them.

I was happiest getting up close to the flamingos. They have watery yellow eyes. It's amazing how they twist their necks.

There were rides- gentle ones- aimed at the younger child. I went on a couple but drew the line at the waltzing teacups. I know what vertigo feels like and have no wish to induce it artificially...

Another vote for giant guinea pigs here! I do actually like rats and kept pet ones some years ago, but the lack of a tail and the blunt snout means they are like giant guinea pigs, not rats.
