Not Into Gobbing

They were commiserating with the royal family at Meeting today. Apparently the leaked revelations from Harry's Autobiography have hit the Windsors hard.

Ailz, being mischievous, told the group that I was a Republican- and would like nothing better than to herd the royals into a cellar and let loose with a machine gun.

I played along, but afterwards thought, "I'm no more a republican than I'm a royalist. I don't want there to be to be a king, but I don't want there to be a president either. I don't dislike one particular form of government; I dislike all forms of government.

The proper word for what I am is an anarchist- but I hesitate to embrace it because people think anarchists are wild-eyed folk who want to gob on them.

The president problem was the reason why for years I reluctantly accepted a monarch as head of state, but a president doesn't necessarily need to have any political power. My preference now would be for the sort of president they have in Ireland. Basically I want a person who can represent the country when necessary but who is apolitical. Alternatively, I would accept a greatly downsized royal family stripped of most of their castles and land.
