Jack 'n' Meg
May. 6th, 2006 10:14 amJack Straw got bumped from the Foreign Office because he believes it would be "nuts" to go to war with Iran.
Bush rang Blair and asked him (queruously) what his boy Jack was on.
British Foreign Secretaries are appointed in the White House.
The new Foreign Secretary is Margaret Beckett- famous for having been around a long, long time and for having never said or done anything memorable (except call Neil Kinnock, a "Judas").
She used to be a leftie, but that was in another country; and besides, the wench is dead.

The worst of the horror was that families who had once played and worked together were suddenly (perhaps not so suddenly) ripped apart by prejudice, so that a woman who returned to her childhood home in Hungary was still afraid of her reception by former neighbors.
My point is that Jack S said it would be nuts to go to war with Iran, but that simple truth gets him fired. My God.
I'm not comparing Bush to Hitler; I'm just saying that no one is listening to truthtellers anymore. This is scary.
So Bush is lining up his support for Part II of his Holy War. I wish the man would at least learn to say "nuclear," but I have decided it's his stupid stubbornness.
Jack Straw

Date: 2006-05-07 02:34 am (UTC)People with private access to Bush say he's a lot less of a hick than he likes to appear.
Blair's career is probably shot. This latest cabinet reshuffle has a whiff of desperation about it. He's fast running out of allies.
Re: Jack Straw
Date: 2006-05-07 02:38 am (UTC)The Condi thing put Straw in the headlines as never before. It's possible that Blair saw it as an act of lese-majeste.

Date: 2006-05-07 11:29 am (UTC)well I would hope so, considering he was born AT YALE (his dad was at grad school at yale at the time and they lived in housing for married students), and educated at Phillips-Andover, then Yale, then Harvard. i know he got into all those places because daddy pulled the strings, but still, he's spent most of his life among the elites of the northeast, not the backwoods of texas as he likes to pretend (he was supposed to work one summer as a roughneck on an oil field, but he quit halfway through. it made ol' herbert walker pretty mad, i read.)

I guess people believe what they want to believe.
