Flopsy And Dick

poliphiloThe doctor has yet to issue a death certificate. I was under the impression the state regarded the registration of a death (which can't be done without a certificate) as a matter of urgency, but if the doctor dooesn't feel any pressure I don't suppose we need to either.
My sister and brother-in-law collected my mother's effects from the care home yesterday morning. We went for lunch at their place and helped sort through them. The clothes will go to a charity shop- though the name tags that have been ironed into the fabric may render them worthless. We are keeping some books and pictures- and Flopsy, the rabbit doll my mother had as a child who was with her to the end. Flopsy has lost most of his down-turned mouth and I can only think my mother must have been picking at his face with her finger nail. He used to look sad. He now looks surprised.
One of the pictures is a photo of my mother's brother Dick. I said something about holding onto Flopsy and Dick- and it seemed funnier at the time than it does now in the cold light of the morning of December the 27th.
