Boodle And Coodle And Doodle
Prime Ministers tend to edge their way into my posts sooner or later but I believe I managed to navigate the 44 day tenure of the last PM without mentioning her once.
She didn't really matter.
She had ideas that were out of alignment with those of the powers that really rule the world- so they wiped her out- just like that.
The current PM is considered grown-up and sensible- which means fully identified with the needs and persuasions of the powers that actually rule the world.
He'll do well- on their terms anyway- and if he doesn't there will be an election which will replace him with an opposition politician who has spent the last few years energetically moulding himself into a shape that the powers that really rule the world can accept.
I've not named any of them. The names don't matter. Doodle succeeds Coodle who succeeded Boodle- as Dickens noted as long ago as the 1850s. Our political leaders go with the flow, do as they are told, do what they are permitted to do. The real work of ruling- and changing- the world happens elsewhere...
