In Readiness

The farm was practically inaccessible on foot so it's a decade since we last had to reckon with trick or treaters. Is trick or treating even still a thing or did covid kill it off? Now that we live on a street again we're about to find out. We were in Sainsbury's this morning and bought a couple of tins of sweeties to be in readiness- non-vegan ones so we won't we tempted to eat them ourselves...

On my street, there's a 'code' - if you welcome trick or treaters, put out some visible Halloween decorations like a pumpkin, have porch lights on, etc. If not, don't. I got loads last year in response to some milk bottle ghosts I put out.

Our local residents' intraweb does something similar.

My https://nextdoor.co.uk/discover?map_type=treat_map looks fairly empty so far but still time to go and I won't find out anyway as, for Hallowe'en, I'll still be in Asia living in a conservative Muslim neighbourhood and, back in Scotland, I live in a top-floor flat with a broken intercom!
