Drinking Coffee To The Sound Of Ennio Morricone

I painted the bathroom. It was teal, it is now dark blue. I didn't hate it being teal but the paintwork was damaged. The name of the paint is "Palm Springs". During a coffee break I watched the ending of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Hollywood never knew what to do with Lee Van Cleef, but the Italians did: put him in a long black coat, concentrate on those eagle eyes- and don't have him say very much. Someone has run a stopwatch on the sequence where the three men face off in a triangular formation- and it lasts for four and a half minutes. The audacity. Not even Hitchcock would have had the chutzpah to make so much out of so little by way of suspense. That extraordinary desert cemetery-cum-amphitheatre was constructed for Leone by the Spanish army. Franco loved film-makers so long (Clint Eastwood noted) as they weren't making movies about his regime. Ennio Morricone does more heavy lifting- here as elsewhere- than any composer in the history of cinema.
