No Mow May
May. 16th, 2022 08:27 am I haven't touched the grass since the beginning of the month because some organisation or other has asked us to make us this is a "No Mow May" and I'm all in favour. If we don't mow the grass the wildflowers will grow up with it (as in the parable of the wheat and the tares only with a different moral) and the pollinators will have something to feed on and be able to get on with their pollinating- and the great Wheel of Being will continue to turn. Our grass doesn't seem to have much in it- apart from daisies- except in the north west corner which I wasn't going to mow anyway- where we have all sorts of things flourishing- including scarlet pimpernel and poppies. I think our predecessors in the house (who we never got to meet) may have deliberately cultivated wildflowers there- which endears them to me. I scattered a packet of mixed wildflower seeds in the south west corner a week or two back- but I won't be expecting them to do anything for a year or so....
