Hate Russia?

Hate Russia? No, you can't hate Russia...

Russia is Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Chekhov.

It's Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Stravinsky.

It's the quite extraordinary heroism of Stalingrad- the biggest battle in the history of the world.

It's the defeat of the Nazis.

It's the iconostasis. It's churches with onion domes. It's pilgrims travelling from shrine to shrine. It's the beauty of the Orthodox liturgy.

It's the cinema of Andrei Tarkovsky.

It's the first man in space and the first woman in space.

It's the ballet...

No, you can't hate Russia. It's just not on.

I don't hate Russia or Russians just as I didn't hate America or Americans when Trump was president. But I do wish that people would learn to live peacefully together and stop trying to impose their will on others. National leaders like Putin and Trump bring out the worst in their populations.
