It's That Kind Of A Neighbourhood

There's a garden just across the road which is full of orange poppies that have spilled out onto the pavement. The gardener was out front yesterday morning and I told her how much I loved them,

I went to the shop that sells lights, vegetables and bedding plants and asked the man if I could have six pears and he said, "No" and I pretended to be shocked and he touched me lightly on the shoulder to make it clear he was joking. Then he asked me whether I wanted the yellow ones on display because if not he had some Conference in his back room. I said "Conference" and he went and fetched them. You don't get this kind of interaction down the supermarket.

A guy on Roselands Ave had some uprooted shrubs laid out in his front yard with a note saying "Please help yourself to anything you want." He was coming out the front door and I asked him if he knew what any of them were and he said he hadn't a clue. I took one I liked the look of- which turns out to be a eucalyptus- and thanked him. I may go back today and see if there's anything left...

Probably Californian poppies- they see to do quite well here.

Could be California poppies. Could also be Iceland poppies.
