John J Mearsheimer- in a videoed talk from midway through the last decade that is getting a lot of clicks these days- speaks of Putin as a 19th century man- by which he means a person invested in a vision of a world divided up into empires and nation states- with the concomitant of hard borders, customs posts, flags, gunboats and songs in praise of the fatherland.

Pay attention to the western media and it becomes clear that Putin isn't the only one operating from a mindset that's 150 years behind the times...
