My mother called me a few times last night but one adapts to circumstances- and if I lose too much sleep at night I'm in the happy position of being able to take short naps during the day. Anyway, old people (and I'm one) can get by on less sleep than young people (until, that is, they cross a certain boundary line and then they start to prepare for eternity by sleeping most of the time.)
There was a man in my dreams I don't know in real life but whom I'd recognize if I we met. He was aged about 40 with a bland, smooth face and the beginning of a squint. He had something interesting to tell me- about ETs and the multiverse I think- but what it was I never got out of him because other, louder characters came piling in- all of them wanting to watch a film called Heroes on the TV screen that was fixed to the kitchen wall.
My elder son likes the Reacher books and I'm seeing him tomorrow so I thought I'd watch the new Reacher show on Amazon Prime and it will be something for us to talk about. I quite liked it. It passed the time. I've got a couple more episodes of season one to watch- and my familiarity with Agatha Christie has persuaded me I know what the twist in the tail is going to be. Reacher has the body of a superhero, the fighting skills of a ninja, the brain of Sherlock Holmes and the emotional detachment of a bodhisattva- and somehow this unlikely combination of characteristics fuses into a believable if not plausible whole. I'm not going to become hooked on his adventures- all of which (I'm told) are exactly the same- but I can see his appeal.
