Oldham Edge

On Oldham Edge the grass is green,
Nicest view that e'er tha's seen.
When tha stands on top and looks about
Nowt but mills wi' a chimney spout.

Ailz says that has to be a pre-war song. The mills have gone now, but the first two lines are as true as ever.

I love the flowers in the stone in the first photo. They're lovely! It looks like there are many a great photo opportunity there. I've run out of places to take photos even in my OWN town. It's ridiculous.

It looks like stone, but in fact it's wood. Nicely weathered.

This hill is right in the middle of town; suburbs sprawled out all round it- yet you'd hardly know. When I was walking round it yesterday aftrnoon I had it all to myself.

Really? Is it petrified wood or just really old?

Just old.

But it's in a very exposed position. It wouldn't have had to be there more than a few seasons to look the way it does.

And once again, I've borrowed one of your pics for my desktop. This time it's the one with the abandoned car shell.

I hope you don't mind. It's lovely.

As always, I'm flattered.
