poliphiloTony Blair daren't show his face on the streets of Britain for fear that someone will shout "Liar!" or "Murderer!" or attempt a citizen's arrest. In spite of this the Queen is going to make him a Garter Knight. It just goes to show that the elites really don't give a toss what the non-elites think.
A petition to stop his knighthood has garnered 128,000 signatures (according to the Mirror) and will garner many more- but I'll be surprised if it has any effect. After all, denying him his knighthood would create a precedent that might impact on our present PM's chances of eventual ennoblement. Not to mention those of Brown, Cameron and May.
I haven't signed the petition, though my key-pressing finger is itching, because I don't want the Honours System cleaning up (an impossibility, I'd say, because corruption is of its essence) but completely done away with.
