My Optician

poliphiloI went to have my eyes tested for the first time in three years. Seems like they're doing fine. That episode a few weeks back where I just couldn't focus must have been down to something else. Too much LJ probably.
I didn't get to see my old optician because he's recently retired to get married. He's 76. And this is his first trip down the aisle.
He was in a long term relationship before, but the lady died. They never married because his parents were orthodox Jews and she was a Roman Catholic.
He smokes a pipe, likes to jog and used to keep a complete set of Dickens in his consulting room.
I wish him a long and happy retirement.
