Old Clothes

Things I've tried on at one time or another:

Charismatic Christianity
Ultramontanism
Anglo-Catholicism
Liberal Protestantism
Anarchism
Revolutionary Socialism
Hippy Idealism
New Age Mysticism
Wicca
Celtic Paganism
Classical Paganism
Zen Buddhism
Atheism
Agnosticism
Spiritualism
Theosophy

I grew out of them all.

But I still have them in my wardrobe.

Kind of like a many coloured coat, or...perhaps, a quilt. They're all there, all part of who you are.

That's about as philosophic as I can get this morning.

A coat of many colours- yes, I like it!

And I have some of them in mine, as a superannuated wannabe beatnik.

And one that wasn't on your list.

I think I can say (with G.K. Chesterton): As much as I ever did, more than I ever did, I believe in liberalism; but there was a rosy time of innocence when I believed in liberals.

I guess I didn't list liberalism because that's one I haven't put away- and probably never will.

Just don't wear them all at once, you'll look like the theological equivalent of Bjork at the Oscars.

That would be fearful...

Theosophy??? Did you pick that one up in Philly?

Last week I had dinner in the house in which Theosophy was conceived.

I didn't know (or had forgotten) that little historical tit-bit.

What an extraordinary person she was!

What's the difference between keeping them in your wardrobe and donating them to the Goodwill?

If I donate them to the Goodwill I don't get to try them on (at the midnight hour) and do a twirl in front of the mirror.
