Over Fifty Years Since They Released Their Last Album..

Wendy flits round the house listening to the Beatles. I like the Beatles. Or at least I think I like the Beatles. Or- to put it another way- one of the things I tell myself about myself is that I like the Beatles.

When I hear the Beatles I get a download from my adolescence and young adulthood.

Or, that used to be the case...

Because this morning I didn't get any sort of download. I was just hearing flimsy, tuneful pop music- from a distant, very different time- and nothing to do with me at all...

That's because the connection has worn out. You're hearing the same songs you heard in 2011, in 2001, in 1991, in 1981… I hear today the same 1970s songs I've heard for forty years, and the association is merely academic, i e  recalling that F Valli's "December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)" came out in 1975.  That I was there at the time, is erased by the hundreds upon hundreds of times I've heard it since.

Find an unplundered tomb - a song you haven't heard since - and the memories will shine again.
