Skype

We got Skype so we could talk free to Mike in Japan. Yesterday we tried it out for the first time.

And it was like opening a jar of jam in the vicinity of a wasps' nest. All the time we were connected we had calls and texts coming at us from all over. I've never known the like.

"Call me"

"Add me"

"Talk to me"

"Let me show you my penis."

Jeez!

But apart from that it was brilliant. It was strange to have Mike's voice coming out of the computer. He sounded so clear we could almost have been facing one another across the table.

YAY! PENIS!

Er, I mean, yeah, I've heard Skype is cool. I should look into it more now that I fancy a barrister in London.

I was impressed. It'sthe next best thing to actually visiting with someone. And if you have a webcam it's even better.

I used Skype to talk to [livejournal.com profile] anarchist_nomad while he was in Argentina and we will use it again when he moves to Oxford. Its really a great service.

I haven't been troubled by unwanted requests though. I think there is an option to block people not on your list or to appear as offline maybe? I'll have to look when I get home.

I need to look into the blocking option. Mike wasn't getting any interruptions at his end.

The way of the future.

And I think the future will include people's faces, too, if they want them on.

And this is free? Wonderful. Land-line telephones are going to be archaic soon.

I'm a little nervous about being visible on the phone.

Mike has a webcam. If we'd had one too we could have been talking face to face.

I don't have a penis, but I have Skype (we use it at work). I haven't had the experience that you describe, either on Skype or Yahoo IM. But I will say that I had that experience before, and that's why I stopped IMing for 8 years or so.

There must be some way of blocking unwanted callers and messagers.

Actually, it added a certain spice to the conversation.

P.S.

Googletalk and Yahoo Messenger have the same phone capacity. It's really convenient if you have a laptop with a built-in microphone and you're not in a cube.

I love skype, I use it for a foriegn language study group and cannot believe how clear people from all over the world sound.

I haven't gotten any unwanted requests though, you must be special!

We must have left ourselves open in some way. I need to check it out. Mike wasn't getting interruptions at his end.

Skype is great! I use it all the time, also for work. And I never get those interruptions. It might have to do with the name you selected? If it is poliphilo, that might be a reason, as "phil" is one of the strings a lot of weirdos search for/use in their nicknames. I'm dadiweb by the way, if you want to add me, sometimes we can chat too when I'm online :)

Actually it's set up in Ailz's name, so I guess I was online as a female. Maybe that explains the penis.

Thanks for the Skype name. I'll add it to the list. We're aileen95
