Krzysztof Kieslowski's Three Colours Red

I didn't like Blue and White all that much, so I nearly passed on Red. I'm glad I didn't. You know how some few, rare works of art sort of wrap themselves around you so you feel protected and you don't want to leave the world they've created? Well this movie did that for me.

Sure, the colour coding's beautiful and the characters meet up nicely at the end but I think that on their appearance, the critics decided that a TRILOGY from such an IMPORTANT DIRECTOR, meant that these films wold be CLASSICS ... and I don't think they are ... in fact, I think they're grossly over-rated. The films elucidate their themes obscurely, (some would say subtlely) and ther's a certain tedium factor in them all, in my opinion. Exploring the back stories of the people involved in a tragedy was done more concisely, more poetically and much earlier in "The Bridge of San Luis Rey".

I don't think they hang together as a trilogy. They're too disparate. And the links are tenuous and superficial.

I find Blue rather obvious. I knew where it was going almost as soon as it started.

White is an ingenious oddity. A comedy without laughs. And I didn't believe in the people.

But I love Red.

I liked all three films, but for odd and different reasons. I am now watching the Decalouge, and find them far more moving and intense.

The Colours films feel quite laid back after the Decalogue.
Yeah, Decalogue is Kieslowski's masterpiece.

I, too, absolutely loved Red.

Blue was simple, and good. And I haven't seen White (going to, soon).
