Not Sleeping

I don't sleep well these days. I'm not complaining; I'm just stating it as a fact.

I took extra pain killers last night. They didn't send me to sleep. They just made my head buzzier.

I lie awake and plot my novel.

The man next door works unsocial hours and has a terrible cough. Huh-hurr, huh-hurr, huh-hurr.

Those people with the yard dogs- how can they stand that incessant racket up close? They must be old and deaf.

The less I sleep the more intensely I dream. Last night Laurence Olivier was directing me in Macbeth. He was explaining his own greatness to me. "Maybe it's not where I come from," he said. "It's from whence I came."

off topic, but thought of this (http://legnangel.livejournal.com/564026.html) and thought of you.

Those are great. Thanks for drawing them to my attention.

I'm glad you liked Purchas.

I guess it's--three in the morning where you are, and I do hope you are sleeping well, or at least having more interesting dreams!

Thanks. I slept a bit better last night. My arthritis is playing up, probably because of the turn of the season. The air is damper or drier or colder or warmer or something....

Paul Brucker sends hello from long-ago Carriage House, etc.

Tony: What a pleasure it is to read about your journey through day to day and your reflections on what this means and feels for you. I read your entries every now and not very then, but it warms me to read your sensitivty and intelligence. I'll be in touch to see how I might enter this community of correspondence instead of simply ruminating silent and sometimes aloud to nobody who really seems to -- violin music, please -- listen, understand or care.

"The less I sleep the more intensely I dream. Last night Laurence Olivier was directing me in Macbeth. He was explaining his own greatness to me. 'Maybe it's not where I come from," he said. "It's from whence I came.'"

That would explain his greatness, then: being able to say that with a straight face.

After I read his autobiography, I had more respect for Vivien Leigh and less for him.

I understand Olivier's importance, but I think he's over-rated. He may have been the finest stage actor of his generation but he never mastered the art of screen acting.
