poliphiloI don't suppose Zuckerburg et al set out to rule the world. If they had they'd have chosen one of the conventional routes- like politics. All they wanted was to make a buck or two.
Like all rulers they fear for their thrones. We (the people) put them there by purchasing the services they offer- and can unseat them by changing our social habits. All it would take is for some influencer to decide that online shopping or social messaging is uncool.
This is an age of transition. Carlyle would have called it "world-historical"- a formulation I have always liked. Generations yet to be born will ask their grandparents (our children and grandchildren) what it was like "to live through all of that."
My hopes for 2021:
1. Change
2. Change
3. Change
Also it would be nice if we could begin to get a handle on just what the hell is going on...
