Nov. 5th, 2020 08:46 am1. I heard a few distant fireworks going off yesterday and a few at the week end, but this has been far and away the quietest Guy Fawkes season I have ever known.
2. Glenn Greenwald asks why Brazil can count votes quickly, competently and with very little suspicion of fraud when the USA can't. It's a good question. Greenwald, by the way, is now publishing on a website called (simply) Greenwald, having resigning from The Intercept- the site he co-founded- after its editors refused to publish an article he'd written about the Hunter Biden emails.
3. I dreamed my mother's younger self had abandoned her older self on a street corner while she went off to do some shopping. The older self was inadequately dressed and was in danger of falling out of her wheelchair. I was very cross about this- and gave her younger self quite a talking to.
4. I watched an episode of Inspector Morse from 1989. Morse's world doesn't look so very different from the world of 2020 but the erotic tension that suffuses every interchange between the sexes is very last century.
