The roads were unusually busy yesterday. I suppose people were hurrying to do all the things they will no longer be allowed to do after today- like take pleasure trips- which is what we were doing...
We went to Hastings. We'd been avoiding it over the summer because we've been avoiding all crowded places. We didn't go into the town but parked up by the beach and ate a pic-nic lunch. Then I took a walk along the shingle.
Here, have a picture of a breaking wave...

The first thing I did this morning was turn on the TV and listen to the BBC pundits all but bursting at the seams as they did their best to contain their contempt for Donald Trump. Andrew Neil had a go at the British Foreign Secretary, trying- without success- to tempt him into saying something that the next President of the United States (whoever he might happen to be) would find unforgiveable. Twenty minutes of this sort of thing was enough, but I suppose I'll keep checking in to see if there are any developments.
John Sessions has died. The last thing I saw him in was the TV film about the making of Dad's Army. His impersonation of Arthur Lowe/Captain Mainwaring was uncannily accurate. He wasn't all that old- and he'll be missed.

I heard the news about John Sessions. I discovered him with the 2000 BBC Gormenghast, where he was one hundred percent physically wrong for the part of Doctor Prunesquallor but one hundred and ten percent every other way perfect, so I didn't care; when I read the novels, the character always sounds a little like him now. I was just looking him up recently. He was definitely not old enough for this to be reasonable.
