A month ago I was turning plastic bottles into planters. It was something Ailz had seen on line and we thought we'd try it. You cut the top off the bottle and insert it upside down in the bottom half. You fill the bottom half with water and put a plant in the top. Here's a reminder of what that looks like...



But does it work?

I planted five shop-bought herbs- two basil and three coriander. Usually they enjoy a short lifespan, sitting on the kitchen window sill in their original pots. But these have flourished- even though I've been liberally helping myself to leaves to sprinkle on curries.
