Chertsey Bridge

On his way to and from the Maylie house Oliver Twist crosses Chertsey Bridge- from which he is able to see the dilapidated safe house where he and Sikes and Flash Toby Crackit rest up before the attempted robbery.

The bridge- which was built in 1783- looks like this. The lamps are Edwardian but otherwise it remains very much as it did in Dickens's time.



The safe house- supposing it ever existed- is no longer in evidence. Instead there are these...

The bridge is nifty. Don't think much of the housing!
