A Use For Scrap Cardboard

We buy a lot online- and our garage fills up with cardboard boxes. We aim to recycle- but the sheer bulk defeats us. For one thing you have to remove the tape- and it takes a sully amount of time and is rough on the finger nails.

But, Matthew has a use for them. He spreads them over the soil, tops up with woodchip and he's then got a surface that'll suppress weeds for several years. The alternative is plastic sheeting- which doesn't rot down. He turned up this morning with his truck- and took the lot.

That's fascinating. Is he doing this on areas that need to rest a season between crops?

He's working in a private garden that's got out of hand. He'll grub up the weeds, lay down the cardboard, put wood chip on top and that'll be that. I guess the owner will then fill the space with pots and planters.

Oh, okay. I'll keep that in mind in case we ever decide to try our hand at growing something.
