Peter-Next-Door
Feb. 18th, 2024 10:14 am When they weren't talking about religion Aliz and Peter-next-door were talking about how Peter needs a new roof. Our roof is fine, having been renewed in 2010, but the work Peter is going to have to have done will impinge on us because the two roofs are contiguous. Also the shared chimney stack may have to come down- something I will argue against (gently) because chimney stacks are aesthetically pleasing and serve gulls and jackdaws as nesting sites.
Just in case I ever find myself talking to Peter-next-door about religion I've been reading what wikipedia has to say about the Seventh Day Adventists- and found I've been thinking of them as a quaint little 19th century protestant sect when in fact they have an international reach and boasted 21,000,000 adherents in 2019 (which is a lot more than the Quakers have.) Also I've learned some fun facts, namely: (1) Their 19th century prophetess Ellen G White is one of the world's best-selling authors (2) they recommend- though don't insist on- vegetarianism and (3) through the agency of the Kellogg brothers they invented breakfast cereals.
