Moving Around
Aug. 30th, 2023 08:16 am We were in East Dean yesterday- the village adjacent to Beachy Head- having lunch with David and Jane in the cottage they're house-sitting for a friend. David and Jane don't have a place of their own but travel round the country occupying premises that have been temporarily vacated by their owners. I don't know quite how this works; you'd think it was a bit chancy, but they seem to move smoothly from gig to gig- from caravanserai to caravanserai. They've been in East Dean for several months and in a couple of weeks they'll be decamping to a Tudor building in rural Suffolk. It wouldn't suit me to be always on the move and living with other people's accumulated tat (I like my own tat too much) but I can sort of see the attraction of this gentle, hippyish way of being- light on attachment, light on baggage.
We'll miss them when they go away.
