The elderberries are out, so are the blackberries. Mid August is, I think, early for both of them.
Ailz made elderberry wine once. This was back in the glory days of the coven. It was very drinkable, dark and full and syrupy. We drank a lot of it in one sitting. Pretty powerful too.
I pick the odd blackberry as I stroll around. Not any that are low down or too close to roads because who knows what poisons they may be carrying, but ones that are high up on bushes that border footpaths I reckon to be safe. When I was a kid in semi-rural Kent we'd pick loads and loads from the fields that bordered our housing estate- and they'd end up in blackberry and apple pies and crumbles.
Free food. It's all around us of course. We could be eating most wild plants- if we set our minds to it and had a herbal to hand to stop us making silly/fatal mistakes.
