Turnaround
Aug. 10th, 2023 08:20 am "I'll assemble it in 20 minutes," he said. In the event- even with his son assisting- it took him several hours. He has a sunny personality. This tested it.
We'd bought two flat packs. The first- a desk- we managed to asemble ourselves, but the second- a kitchen cabinet- as I could see from a glance at the instruction leaflet- was beyond our competence- so we asked Damian- the guy from across the road who rendered the back of the house- to do it for us. He hasn't yet put in his bill.
We're in the middle of a big turnaround, making this house- where we've been living for over a year with my mother's unwieldy and unsuitable furniture- into a friendlier space. There's a lot of mess. Later this morning, on my way to the Meeting House, I'll be taking a couple of big plastic bags to the recycling centre. There'll be many more to follow.
At times like these I remember my father's two favourite saws.
1. There's no fun like work
2. Change is good for the soul.
