Suppressing Emotion
Sep. 6th, 2022 08:22 amMy mother was aware of us intermittently. There were even moments when she seemed to know who we were. She refused cake but accepted a chocolate. I don't think she ever grasped we were there to celebrate her birhday.
Earlier we (that's Ailz and me and Jenny and Ian) had rendez-voused at the Watts Gallery- which is just up the road from the nursing home- a distance that could be walked if there were a footpath- which there probably isn't. We didn't look at the pictures (it would have cost us the price of an entrance fee and I don't think any of us likes Watts all that much) but we mooched round the shop ( which sells attractive, non-essential arty-crafty things) and lunched in the cafe- where the food is excellent.
I felt very tired at the end of the day. I think that had something to do with the effort involved in suppressing emotion.
