The dead fox was gone by yesterday evening. It's what one pays one's council tax for. Whoever removed it isn't paid nearly enough.

I think we've bought a new bathroom. The salesman was a nice bloke (aren't they always?) and made a big issue out of how the outfit he works for is a family firm- not owned by hedgefunders- and manufactures to order instead of buying ready-made units from China (as their rivals do). I don't know if he always takes that line or if he'd sussed us out- but- anyway- it was the right button to press.

I follow Test matches on the Guardian's over-by-over website- where there is silliness to relieve the suspense. The England team is under new management and has set aside the wisdom of ages, which goes, "Caution, caution, caution" and is biffing the ball instead. It seems to be working. First we've had a series of wins against New Zealand and now we're in a run chase to beat India- and should wrap things up nicely later this morning. Bairstow is the new hero; in he comes and hits a ton with plentiful sixes and fours in innings after innings. His batting average under the new regime is 176- which is ridiculous...

I've stepped back from the tennis. I'm not sure why. Covid perhaps. Or politics. Or a combination of both. I thought it was abject of the Wimbledon authorities to ban the Russian players.
