The Netflix documentary about Jimmy Savile didn't tell me much that I didn't already know but it did remind me just how popular he was, how he was constantly on the radio, on TV and in the papers- doing his shows and pulling off his charity stunts and being photographed with senior politicians.

Now we're all claiming we always had him pegged for a wrong'un, but that's hindsight- and his viewing figures say otherwise. I used to watch him on Top of the Tops and Jim'll Fix it- and I can't honestly say I was repulsed.

On my way to the recycling centre with an armful of flattened cardboard boxes, I saw a child-sized chair sitting outside a front door. Wrtten on the back was "Oscar's Naughty Chair" I hope it's not actually used as an instrument of punishment and the superscription is jokey- in which case its rather cute.

Oscar is a popular name these days- both for boys and pets. I'd like to think that, having been under a cloud because of Oscar Wilde it's now fashionable for exactly the same reason.

A man at the tip- about my age- said "there must be a better way of passing Saturday mornings." I recognised this as a friendly remark and not an invitation to debate so I agreed but actually I love going to the tip- so much going on, so much satisfaction in getting rid of one's junk.

It's a beautiful morning. The previous owners left us a whirligig clothes dryer. Putting it up was a bit like wrestling an octopus. It won the first two rounds but I won the bout. It can be seen in the picture below.
