On the top shelf of one of cupboards in my mother's bedroom was a cardboard box with home-made baby clothes packed in tissue paper. They'll be mine and my sister's. I don't feel any nostalgia for myself as a baby so I was going to send them to a charity shop but Ailz suggested we offer them to our youngest granddaughter for use with her dolls. We rang to ask if she'd like them and my daughter was reaching for polite ways of saying "No,"- only Clover was in the same room and overheard what was going on and overruled her.

We took them to the Post Office in Brenchley yesterday afternoon. As we drove past the war memorial we saw not only snowdrops and crocuses on the shady bank behind it, but also daffodils- the first of the season.
