Squwak, squawk, squawk goes the pheasant. Then he shakes himself- which is also noisy. It's first light- about 5 o'clock- and he's doing it right under our window.

He goes on doing it at intervals. After a while my mind finds a way of incorporating him into the dream it's weaving (I forget quite how but I'm sure it was ingenious) so that I don't have to keep waking up.
